Athletes For Vets is a 501(c) (3) non-for-profit organization founded in 2011.  AV is comprised of individuals working together to impact the future and welfare of the military men and women who serve in the United States Armed Forces – the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, and all Reserve Components.

Dereck L. Faulkner's journey began within the walls of a US military hospital in West Germany. Born to two distinguished military officers—a Father who served as a Captain and a Mother with a remarkable 20-year tenure as a Retired Major—Dereck's upbringing was steeped in a rich military legacy. His academic path led him to Hampton University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. During his time there, Dereck stood as a student-athlete, emerging as a 4-year starter and earning the prestigious distinction of being a 3-time MEAC Conference all-academic team student-athlete. His athleticism shone brightly on a 3-year Top 3 Nationally ranked Division 1-AA football team, clinching victory as a 3-time MEAC conference champion and as part of the 2005 and 2006 National Black College Championship football teams.

Stepping into the professional realm, Dereck Faulkner's football journey was marked by his signing as a priority rookie free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2007 NFL draft. In the years that followed, he left his mark on several NFL organizations across three football seasons, including time in the Canadian Football League. However, his contributions extended beyond the field. Elected as an NFLPA former player advisory board member and twice chosen as a Former Player Chapter President of the NFL Players Association, Dereck's leadership and influence reached even greater heights.

Beyond athletics, in 2011, Dereck's heart led him to establish The Athletes for Vets Foundation, a 501c(3) nonprofit organization. Rooted in his deep respect for the United States Armed Forces and a desire to honor their sacrifices, this foundation serves as a testament to his commitment to philanthropy and humanitarianism. Dereck's journey took him further into the realm of education, earning an MBA degree in 2013 from George Washington University School of Business, where he concentrated on Strategic Marketing and Non-Profit Management. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Designing Sustainable Systems at Case Western Reserve University's Weatherhead School of Management, his concentration lies in Executive Leadership & Organization Development.

Dereck Faulkner's story stands as a testament to his dedication to philanthropy, entrepreneurship, and his unwavering connection to the military. Through his myriad endeavors, he has left an indelible mark on both the world of sports and the realm of social impact.
